The NCflex and NCgel product family is developed for electrical insulation applications where serviceability, re-entry and moisture / water protection are required. Polybutadiene-based NCflex PBD W-25 and NCflex PBD W-30 systems, together with transparent silicone-based NCgel, provide technical solutions for junction boxes, cable connections, battery packs and field-type insulation applications.

Why are gel or elastic electrical insulation systems needed?

In some electrical connections, a rigid potting compound is not enough. If maintenance, testing, measurement, re-entry, removal or moisture protection is required, the insulation system must be flexible, serviceable and suitable for the real application conditions.

Maintenance and re-entry

A removable structure provides a major advantage in applications where the connection may need to be opened, inspected or replaced later.

Moisture and water protection

Hydrophobic systems provide a safer protection approach against moisture and water around the connection area.

Flexibility

In areas exposed to vibration, thermal expansion or movement, a flexible system can be more tolerant than rigid potting materials.

Application-based selection

Not every application requires the same resin. Rigid PU, elastic PU, PBD-based systems or silicone gel should be selected according to application conditions.

Difference from Conventional PU Systems

Where do conventional polyurethane resins struggle?

Standard polyurethane resins may be sensitive to atmospheric moisture while they are still in liquid form. In humid environments, unwanted reactions may occur during casting; this can increase the risk of foaming, bubbles or internal voids.

In addition, many conventional PU systems cure into a relatively rigid structure. This can make removal and service operations difficult in applications where the connection needs to be accessed again later.

Silicone Gel Alternative

Difference between NCflex PBD and silicone gel systems

Silicone gels offer advantages such as high temperature resistance and transparency. However, not every application requires +200°C temperature resistance. In applications where extreme temperature resistance is not required, NCflex PBD systems can be evaluated as a more economical and practical alternative.

Summary: If your application does not require extreme temperatures such as 150–200°C, NCflex PBD systems can be a more economical alternative to silicone gels while still offering flexibility and serviceability.

  • Mixing ratio: 30/1
Note: NCflex PBD W-30 is positioned as a more gel-like NCflex product based on the same A-component structure as W-25, with a different B-component / ratio approach.

A silicone-based, transparent and soft gel-like electrical insulation solution. It can be evaluated for applications requiring visual inspection, transparent filling and easy access.
